Serious flaws in Nepal's civil aviation system have been exposed after a tragic accident on Wednesday which claimed 22 lives.
Twin Otter, operated by Tara Air, crashed at a remote site on Wednesday, December,15th, killing all 22 on board. Three crew members and 19 passengers were headed towards capital Kathmandu from Buddhist pilgrimage destination in Khotang district.
Tax evasion scam
Initial investigations have revealed that 18 passengers were Bhutanese nationals and one was a Tibetan refugee with American passport. Their travel agent created fake identities to conceal their foreign nationality. This scam was carried out to evade steep taxes the agent have to pay if a client is a foreign national.
